This is an unpaid and honest review of the products I have been using to resolve my constipation – including my current top favorite natural remedies.

I am not a doctor and cannot give medical advice.

I am simply sharing my experience using these products to try to address my bowel related symptoms naturally, and I want to share with you some of my favorite natural remedies for constipation in adults.

Sampling ISOThrive for Instagram

As a new Instagrammer in the #spoonie community, I have loved sharing my journey in photos and words, and meeting other people in similar situations who understand what I’m going through.

But I also get a ton of offers to sample health or nutritional products that small or large companies believe might help me.

I obviously can’t take all of these types of offers because I can only address one symptom or health situation at a time, and I’m going through a lot right now.

But as someone with a fierce case of endometriosis growing in my pelvis, along with my fibromyalgia symptoms, my insides are constantly inflamed and swollen, and I experience the symptoms of IBS on a regular basis.

So when ISOThrive (known to be a natural prebiotic) wanted to send me a sample I jumped on the opportunity to try it.

Allow me to take a moment to explain my symptoms and my usual natural remedies so you can understand where I was at prior to starting the 10-day sample I was sent.

My Bowel Related Symptoms

Some of the bowel-related symptoms I experience on a regular basis due to the growth and inflamation within my pelvis, as well as the overstimulation of my nerves, includes:

  • constipation (no bowel movement for days),
  • diarrhea
  • upset tummy
  • lower abdomen pain
  • bloated belly
  • gas
  • acid reflux
  • nausea
  • vommitting

The worst one for me recently is the constipation, because I’m having a lot of trouble eating or keeping food down.

Sometimes I can’t even bring myself to chew food, I just spit it back out.

And then sometimes I get so voraciously hungry, I just shove it all down and then throw it back up.

So food hasn’t been moving through me very well, resulting in days of no movement.

The day I tried ISOThrive was just such a day – actually it was day 4 of nothing but a lump in my gut that would not move.

My Usual Go To for Constipation

For the most part, I like to be as natural as possible – although that doesn’t mean I don’t have vices.

When I can’t make a bowel movement I drink Smooth Move Tea, by Traditional Medicinals.

Ingredients: Organic Licorice Root, Organic Bitter Fennel Fruit, Organic Sweet Orange Peel, Organic Cinnamon Bark, Organic Coriander Fruit, Organic GingerRhizome, Organic Orange Peel Oil on Gum Arabic. All Herbal Ingredients: Organic Senna Leaf and Extract (PhEur).

It is not harsh, it settles my stomach with the fennel and licorice root, and the senna softens my stools. Plus, it tastes good.

When that doesn’t work, I will turn to a strong colon cleanse (I like Health Plus, with 665mg of Senna Leaf Powder) which takes about 24 hours to get me moving, but then I definitely move.

Worst case scenario, if I’ve waited too long and it’s just a block, I will take excess amounts of stool softener along with milk of magnesia laxative, as prescribed by my medical doctor – but I have learned to avoid these unnatural remedies by initiating Smooth Move tea sooner.

I decided to try ISOThrive when I ran out of Smooth Move and didn’t want the full on effects of my strong colon cleanse.

I was pretty blocked up.

What is ISOThrive

ISOThrive is simply a prebiotic nectar.

Prebiotic – a nondigestible food ingredient that promotes the growth of beneficial microorganisms in the intestines

Nectar – a sugary fluid secreted by plants, especially within flowers to encourage pollination by insects and other animals. It is collected by bees to make into honey.

The daily single-serving packets include 1.4 ml of a clear, honey-like substance, that has almost no flavor aside from a delicate sweetness.

Although the package does not define what the nectar is extracted from, it does announce that they are fermented from 100% non-GMO ingredients that are:

  • Vegan
  • Gluten Free
  • Dairy Free
  • Soy Free
  • Zero Calories
  • Gastroenterologist Endorsed
  • 100% money-back guarantee

It is stated that it helps one achieve digestive balance, reflux relief, and immunity boost by feeding your microbiome stimulates, leading to a stronger immune system for better overall health and well-being.

They admit the statement have not been approved by the FDA, but since when has the FDA really supported the naturopathic community 100%.

My Experience Trying ISOThrive

Well, I regretfully only had a 10-day sample.

But I will definitely be replenishing.

As I mentioned, the day I started it I was desperate for relief from my constipation.

I had already read through the packet of ISOThrive, and I knew significant results could take as long as a month, so I wasn’t holding my hopes up for much.

But I figured it was a good time to start working on my intestinal health.

I first tried it in water – although it says you can drink straight from the packet – as I feared the horrible aftertaste that I had experienced with products prior.

It dissolved into my water with little effort and the water just tasted like water, no difference at all.

I kind of worried I hadn’t really taken it, like maybe it got stuck on the glass.

Within an hour I felt gurgling in my stomach that meant something was happening, not unpleasant.

With a few hours I had a full bowel release that was actually quite pleasant.

The stool was not soft or liquid, like it would be with a colon cleanse.

It seemed to be compacted, and smooth, and came out quite easily.

The results were so fast I feared it might have been a coincidence, so I decided to keep trying.

On day two, I again tried it with water because it was simple to squeeze into my water bottle and shake up.

Within an hour I did have a bowel movement, but it was diarrhea and a little uncomfortable.

It could very well have had to do with some snacking I had done the night before, or a necessary clean-out, but it concerned me that maybe this stuff was too strong for me to use daily.

I did decide to at least try using it before bed instead – that is what I do with the colon cleanse and it results in fewer embarrassing bathroom incidents during the day.

I waited all day to take it, as I said I wanted to try it before bed but I wasn’t going to try it on the evening of the 2nd day I had already taken it.

I was not up all night with any sort of issues that I would normally expect.

I slept a sold 6 hours without needing to go to the bathroom, which is good for me after a colon cleanse.

I had a normal bathroom experience, not unpleasant, on day four (the night after day three) and was excited that I seemed to be having fewer stomach symptoms.

I took it again at night, and had sleep issues only related to my other pain symptoms – but no stomach or bowel issues.

I realized I hadn’t had any acid reflux in a few days.

Although this symptom had reduced a bit since my eating stopped, it was replaced by an inability to put food down and an automatic regurgitation which has felt more controllable since I started the ISOThrive.

By this point I am having success taking it at night and noticing daily regular (albeit tiny) bowel movements without discomfort or effort – and no more diarrhea.

My usual stomach inflamation caused by the endometriosis has reduced, which I can only attribute to less inflamation in my colon.

I honestly would recommend this product already, even if not taken daily but as an occasional way to get the bowels moving, but I am excited to see if I will have any further autoimmune benefits and if it will actually strengthen my immune system.

As an autoimmune sufferer, this would be a big deal for me.

Since I’m almost out and read to order more, I thought I’d share my experience in the case it helps with whatever relief you need.

I will share my experience again once I’ve had a chance to continue and experience further benefits from ISOThrive.

  2. Hi,
Wondering if you are still using isothrive? I’m giving it a try, only did about a third of the packet, as my gut is extremely sensitive. Yesterday went fine, no symptoms. But today about an hour after taking, very upset with diarrhea. Hope it passes, I really want this product to help. Thanks.

    1. I do use it still but not quite daily. I especially find it helpful after I’ve had a bought of medications or antibiotics that mess up my digestive system. It will absolutely clean you out, although I’ve never had lasting diarrhea. I hope it improved for you. Definitely would love to know if it helped or got better.
